Understanding Hospice
Hospice is comfort-focused care for patients with a life-limiting illness, and support for the family around them. The goal shifts from curing the illness to relieving pain and symptoms, supporting emotional and spiritual needs, and making the most of the time that remains. Care is delivered wherever the patient lives.
Who Qualifies
Hospice is generally appropriate when a physician certifies a life-limiting illness and the focus of care turns to comfort. Common signs that it may be time to ask about hospice include frequent hospitalizations, declining strength or appetite, and increasing difficulty with daily activities. If you are unsure, call us. Insurance and Payment
Spero Hospice accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance. As a Medicare and Medicaid certified, CHAP-accredited provider, hospice services are covered for eligible patients. Our team will explain coverage clearly before care begins.
Support for Caregivers
Caring for a loved one is demanding work. Our respite care services give family caregivers time to rest and recharge, and our social workers connect families with community resources, advance care planning assistance, and counseling.
Bereavement Support
Grief does not end at the funeral. Spero provides grief counseling and bereavement support for families before, during, and after a loss, available for up to 13 months following the death of a loved one.
We Honor Veterans
Spero Hospice is a Level 3 partner in the We Honor Veterans program. We recognize the unique needs of veterans at the end of life, from medal presentations and pinning ceremonies to care planning that honors their service.
