Hospice Basics
When Is the Right Time to Ask About Hospice
Most families tell us the same thing: they wish they had called sooner. Hospice is not about giving up. It is about shifting the goal of care to comfort, dignity, and time well spent with the people who matter.
Signs it may be time to start the conversation include repeated hospital stays, increasing pain or symptoms that are hard to control, noticeable decline in strength or appetite, and growing difficulty with daily activities. A call to our team does not commit you to anything. We will listen, explain the options, and help you decide what fits your family. We answer 24 hours a day at (732) 955-6648.
Insurance
How the Medicare Hospice Benefit Works
For eligible patients, hospice care is covered by Medicare, and Spero also accepts Medicaid and private insurance. Coverage includes the interdisciplinary team visits, medications related to the hospice diagnosis, medical equipment, and the levels of care a patient may need, including continuous home care during a crisis and respite care that gives family caregivers a break.
Families are often surprised by how much is included. Before care begins, our team walks you through exactly what is covered so there are no surprises. Bring us your questions and your insurance information, and we will do the rest.
Grief Support
Bereavement Care Continues After a Loss
At Spero, support for the family does not end when a patient passes. Our bereavement counselors provide grief counseling and emotional support before, during, and after a loss, available for up to 13 months. That can mean check-in calls, one-on-one counseling, or simply someone who understands what you are carrying.
Grief looks different for everyone, and there is no schedule for it. If your family is grieving and needs support, reach out at info@sperohospicenj.com or call us anytime.
